Overview
A full-sized replica of the Mercury-Redstone vehicle (pictured) stands on Pad 5, the site of the United States’ first manned missions.
The pad was so extensively modified to support those manned missions that it was never used after Gus Grissom’s Liberty Bell 7 flight. In fact, Grissom’s launch marked the last launch from this complex.
A Redstone launch ring is at Pad 6 (left). The square metal plate beneath the launch ring is the pad scale.
