About
This deluge water pump station houses diesel-powered water pumps that furnish vast amounts of water to launch pads during launch.
The purpose of the water is to reduce damage to the pad during engine firing.
Pump Station Tanks
Outside the building (visible in gallery photos) are water tanks and diesel fuel tanks. The diesel pumps inside are capable of pumping water at a rate of 31,000 gallons per minute.
Past Uses
At one time, this pump station furnished deluge water to the surrounding launch complexes, including 17, 18, 26 and 5/6.
In its last decades of life, the pump station handled only Launch Complex 17. It has been inactive since September 2011.
