History

Before satellite and astronaut launches become commonplace occurrences, names such as Sputnik, Vanguard and Explorer received all the attention of the public. News reports about these early programs dominated the evening news.

Everyone wanted to be associated with these scientific programs and events. All sorts of items that had any link to a rocket or satellite suddenly appeared on the market. Paper weights, post cards, souvenir coins, comic books, postage stamps, tie pins, model rockets, beverages, and even songs became all the rage. Simply possessing one of these items gave the holder a feeling that he was part of the new frontier.
