History
Our Jupiter display details the origins of the Jupiter IRBM and its contributions to both the missile and spaceflight worlds. Jupiter was launched from Launch Complexes 5 and 26 (Pads A and B) from 1957 to 1963. In this exhibit, visitors will see photographs, videos, a diagram, and a model of the Jupiter missile. They will also learn that Jupiter was used as a space launch vehicle for the Cape’s first monkeynauts. The highlight of the exhibit is a piece of monkeynauts Able and Baker’s actual flown Jupiter nosecone! Jupiter may have had a short run; however, it played a part in the Cuban Missile Crisis and laid some of the groundwork for the future Saturn I.
To see a full-size Jupiter nosecone, guests can visit Sands Space History Center, and to see an intact Jupiter missile, guests can visit Hangar C.
