History
The Arcas weather rocket system was used to obtain high altitude weather information. Arcas was a single-stage, low-thrust, sounding rocket weighing only 65 pounds and capable of sending a 12-pound payload to an altitude of approximately 40 miles.
Two versions of the Arcas were built: one was a meteorological rocket and the other one, called Robin, carried balloons for radar tracking experiments. The first launch of an Atlantic Research Corporation built Arcas was in July 1969.
The Arcas Launcher can be found in the Museum Rocket Garden and an Arcas Instrumentation Package is on display in the History Center.
